Kim played for the Reston Rowdies and VYSA ODP, and won State honors while playing at South Lakes High School. In 1985 she was a member of the NCAA Championship team at George Mason University. The following year she was selected as the first African-American woman on the US Women’s National Team.
She was an extraordinary defender who played in the first Women’s Olympic Festivals, National Cups, the W-League, at the amateur, collegiate, professional an international levels. Kim still plays, coaches, and uses soccer in her work with a community outreach program in Wilmington, NC.
